BLACK LIVES MATTER> AIYANA JONES

Aiyana Jones was 7 years old when she was shot and killed in her Detroit, MI home on May 16, 2010 on a botched SWAT raid. Aiyana was sleeping on her living room couch while her grandmother watched television. Around midnight, half a dozen masked officers burst into the house with a grenade. Officer Joseph Weekley, the lead commando, fired a shot, striking Aiyana in the head and killing her. Not only was the use of the grenade not following protocol; but they were in the wrong apartment. The intended suspect, Chauncey Owens, was actually living upstairs. Compounding the tragedy, Officer Weekley tried to claim in court that the grandmother had reached for his gun when the shot was accidently fired, in an intentional cover-up conspiracy to hide what happened. A civil rights lawsuit has since been filed alleging police cover-up in the murder of the sleeping 7 year old child.
